Crisis Rental and Assistance Funding To Help Prevent Homelessness

Two local nonprofit agencies are providing financial relief for people with disabilities who fall on tough times.  The Arc of Loudoun and Friends of Loudoun Mental Health, both located in Leesburg, are jointly administering a Community Services Block Grant of $35,000 received from the Loudoun County Community Action Agency earlier this summer.  The goal of this grant is to prevent homelessness for families or individuals who experience a disability.  Eligibility requirements to receive money from this grant are as follows:

  • An adult in the household must have a chronic, or long-term, and verifiable disability – this can be a physical or intellectual disability or a mental illness diagnosis.
  • Household income must be within 200% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines.
  • The applicant must have received a quit-or-pay or eviction notice if applying for rental assistance or a termination notice if applying for utility assistance.
  • In addition, applicants must have exhausted all other options for assistance.

Documentation of these requirements is also needed, and the individual applying must be named on the lease and/or utility bill.  If you or someone you know are interested in applying for this grant, or for more information, call The Arc of Loudoun at 703-777-1939 or Friends of Loudoun Mental Health at 703-443-1380 and ask about the Crisis Rental and Utility Assistance Grant.
