Judy Hines

Judy Hines is the president of Friends of Loudoun Mental Health, Inc. She is a founding member of the Loudoun chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) . She has been a member and chairman of the Loudoun County Community Services Board , overseeing policy and top staffing for mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse services in the county. She was a founding co-chair of Leadership Loudoun , served as co-chair of Loudoun's Human Services Network , and is a member of the Health Systems Agency of Northern Virginia . In 2007 she served on the Consumer and Family Empowerment Task Force of Virginia's Commission on Mental Health Law Reform. Prior to her retirement in 1999, Judy was involved in journalism education. She was executive vice president of the American Newspaper Publisher Association Foundation, an educational institution devoted to the First Amendment and to increasing critical newspaper readership. She served as education director of the Newseum, an interactive museum of news for three years following its opening in Rosslyn, Virginia. She chaired, and continues to serve on the board of Young D.C., Inc., which sponsors a metro-wide independent teen newspaper.

Judy became involved with Friends of Loudoun Mental Health with her husband Taylor Hines in 1993 bringing with them our A Place To Call Home program. Both have actively served on the board and volunteered countless hours in service to our community and to the mission of Friends. Judy also served as Secretary until she accepted the leadership role of President in 2003.
