Mel Harkrader Pine is a Loudoun County businessman who recently accepted responsibility as vice president of Friends of Loudoun County Mental Health. He became in involved with Friends in December 2006 when Judy Hines, President of Friends invited him to join our board. Both were volunteering in the Alternative Gift Fair sponsored yearly by St. Gabriel's in Landsdowne, Virginia.
Mel has served as an active volunteer in the field of mental health for more than 20 years, starting at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in New York City in the mid-1980s, when he worked with patients who seldom had visitors. Mel's previous leadership experience includes service as president of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston, board member of the Joseph Priestley District of the Unitarian Universalist Association as well as the Beacon House community ministry in DC. Currently an Allstate agency owner and personal financial representative in Purcellville, Virginia, Mel has held executive positions in public relations at Mobil Corporation and in newsroom management at The New York Daily News.
